Are you still wondering if increasing your healthy fats intake from food can help you? Then keep on reading as I’ll tell you a secret which will bring you more happiness.
Healthy fats in food aid us in many of our body systems. These can help our hormones, nutrients absorption and it also optimizes our memory. Including healthy fats in our meals can create a sense of fullness. This is done by slowing down the digestion of carbohydrates. Plus if you really want a six-pack healthy fats are a real “must”.
Healthy fats in food are of two types: monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fat. Monosaturated fats have many benefits to our health. Some of these being the decrease of heart disease by lowering the cholesterol levels. Foods in which you can find this wonderful kind of fat are nuts, vegetable oils, and avocado. Polyunsaturated fats are known as “essential fats”. This is because our bodies do not generate these types of fats. Where to find them? Well, you can find them in different plant-based and animal-based foods and oils like fatty fish (salmon, herring, sardines), flaxseeds, walnuts, chia seeds and hemp seeds.
As our world becomes more and more complex and full of information our minds can become overwhelmed. Having a cleaner diet can help us feel lighter and can optimize our energy level in order to be able to face this world. While studying how to have a cleaner and healthier diet in order to uplift my mood I’ve seen that fats can actually increase our happiness level. So here is how fats do that:
1. Good Fats help our hormones function well
Happy hormones means also a happy state of mind and fat intake is vital for hormonal health. Around 0.8g-1g of fat per kg of body weight is the minimum recommendation for both males and females for a healthy life.
Healthy fats are essential for maintaining proper hormone function and hormone production. Certain fats can help us more than others and this are the Omega-3. This type of polyunsaturated fat will aid in the rebuilding of cells and stabilization of hormones.
While for males, Omega-3 fatty acids may be positively associated with a proper testicular function, for females this fatty acid can assist with balancing FSH levels and sex hormones. You can read also a study here about how healthy fats in food help regulate hormones in women.
2. Healthy fats in food fight depression
Studies show that especially Omega 3 intake can help our brain fight depression and also other mood disorders. Our brain needs this type of fat for proper brain function.
This isn’t just me saying this, but it’s actually a proven fact demonstrated by more than 30 clinical trials.
In 2009 three studies were done in order to analyze in detail the effects of Omega-3 fatty acids in depression. These studies have shown exactly what I’m telling you, that being that Omega-3 is actually useful for depression in both adults and children.
3. Digestive system and fats
As Omega 3’s are helping fighting inflammation in our body, then the digestive system can only benefit from them too.
Many digestive disorders and chronic conditions have as underlying cause the inflammation in our bodies. As the digestive system can have a huge impact on our mood, then we must try to improve its function. Healthy fats are one of the things that can help you in doing that, so don’t ignore them and try to include healthy fats at every meal.
Final thoughts
As our bodies are a very complex system, I’ve chosen to present more facts and studies in this article. The thing is that indeed there are some benefits that we can’t ignore when we consume healthy fats from food on a regular basis. I’ve presented here only three systems where healthy fats help to improve them. That is because these have the biggest impact on our mood actually and therefore can increase our levels of happiness.
